A FIRST FOR AUSTRALIA

There are over 245,000 Dementia sufferers in Australia, who are looked after either in Nursing Homes, Private Hospitals or at home with dedicated Care people.

When asked to design a special care centre to specially cater to Dementia suffers, Michael King's (Nova's chief designer) extensive experience in Retirement and Nursing Homes was put to good use. His plan was to design the building so that the needs of care workers, as well as the patients would work well together with an emphasis on quality of surroundings and safety aspects in the daily lives of both the sufferer and the dedicated Care people.   This project became a first for Australia.

The design is extremely cost effective and very utilitarian, with a central core where the patients can enjoy each others companionship rather than be isolated.

At the same time the patients are under the watchful eye of the caring staff. The star shape provides different courtyards on all sides with undercover outdoor areas for visiting family enjoyment. All areas are accessible through the central core which makes it very manageable.
